Balance, Coordination and Agility
Written By: Coach MJ
Coordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.
Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.
Balance – The ability to control the placement of the body’s center of gravity in relation to its support base.
As we grow from an infant we learn to develop these skills as we learn to move, crawl and walk, improving them with age. They all become automatic and we never really think about them in our everyday lives.
That is until we start to lose them!
Things like medical conditions, medications, wear and tear on our joints, injuries, vertigo, ear-related issues or head injuries are a few potential reasons that we start losing our balance, coordination and agility as we age. This can start at any stage in life but more often we start seeing or feeling them in our 50-plus timelines of life.
At our Wellness Coaching program, we work on improving these skills through various movements and exercises such as single-leg stands, ball tosses, and stepping in and around objects to help keep and improve our body awareness and abilities. We work on building our bodies to move to the best of our abilities to enjoy all the activities we enjoy, to be able to be safe in our own homes and not be held back from living life!
