Rock, Paper, Scissors!
Written By: Coach Sheri
A simple childhood game with a fitness twist! One of the most requested games we play at Degree Kidz is Rock, Paper, Scissors!
To add a fitness twist, we have a path of plates across the gym. Each team starts at one end and have to jump (with two feet) the path of plates until they meet in the path. Then a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors is played between the two players. The winner of the game keeps hopping to try to get to the other end of the path, while the loser has to run back to the beginning while their team mate tries to make it across. The game finishes when one team gets to the other team's starting point.
We know this game is a huge favourite with our members because they have played it for about half an hour and still had huge smiles on their faces as they played.
We have played this game may times in our Degree Kidz classes! It has a sneaky fitness aspect where the participants have to jump and land on a target, then run back if they lose their game to make sure they are ready to start again if needed. This game also works on the kids reaction time; by playing a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, they use their minds and have to figure out if they win or lose, and then have to keep jumping or run out of the way so their team mate can get through. We also build social skills during this game by working together to get through rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Sometimes we get too excited and need to focus on slowing down the game to make sure no one is cheating!
